Strength Training
Every athlete has done some form of strength training done at one time or another. It is how athletes become bigger, faster, stronger and able to handle more resistance on their bodies. However, technique is EXTREMELY important when athletes begin strength training and is often overlooked in crowded school weight room settings. Lifting weights incorrectly as a teen can immediately lead to acute problems as well as prolonged injuries that can last through adulthood. Technique is extremely important to learn in lifts such as cleans, jerks, snatch, and squats.
Here at the Training Center, our trainers practice what they preach and are all well versed in the art of teaching proper technique in all aspects of strength training. From novices just getting started in the weight room to experienced power lifters, we can help anyone of any age reach their strength goals and help push them to the next level. Come in and let us show you how to lift!
For more experienced lifters looking for a training program that they can do in addition to their performance training sessions, we can design fully periodized strength training programs to fit any schedule or sport.

Speed Training
Speed training is something that every athlete needs, regardless of sport. For example, the same muscles are used in football and baseball to initiate first step explosive power. These exact muscles are also used in basketball and lacrosse to quickly accelerate past an opponent. Maintaining top end speed is the same in soccer as it is in track: optimum stride length, knee drive, and upper body mechanics must be second nature in either sport.
Our speed class starts with the building blocks of speed mechanics: start or take off, acceleration phase, top end speed maintenance, and proper running form. During our one hour training sessions, we help athletes of all ages understand how arm swing helps leg turnover, how proper posture helps maintain top speed, and how subtle differences in the foot strike can effect whether and athlete is accelerating or decelerating during a run. This class covers all ages of runners, from beginner athletes to the elite levels. Our program is proven time and again to help anyone who is looking for that “next gear”. If getting faster is what you’re looking for, then the Training Center is the place you want to go!

Individual Training Philosophy
At the Training Center, we pride ourselves on tailoring each workout to each client’s needs based on a scientific evaluation examining their strengths, weaknesses, and sports specific needs. The Training Center concentrates on two training philosophies when it comes to putting together these programs for our athletes. These philosophies are Peripheral Heart Action training (PHA) and proprioceptive training.
PHA is a program that concentrates on having the blood circulate throughout the client’s body the entire workout. For example, performing an upper body exercise followed by a lower body exercise causes your body to avoid excess blood pooling in certain regions of the body by constantly shifting it to different major muscle groups. Additionally, more blood is sent to waste removal organs such as the kidneys for lactic acid extraction and can re-circulate through the lungs to be re-oxygenated more frequently because of this increased blood mobility.
Proprioceptive training helps athletes to recognize and control where they are in time and space. Time and time again we are amazed by incredible moves and feats that athletes are able to pull off when under stress. This is because they have great body control, or proprioception. The body is able to learn this by doing exercises that cause the athlete to readjust and react while in the air or on unstable surfaces. Proprioceptive training also strengthens joints, tendons, and ligaments, which reduces the likelihood of injuries.
By combining these two training modalities, we can create a perfect workout regimen for anyone. We understand that no two athletes are alike: just because you play the same sport doesn’t mean that you need to be trained the same. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, which means every program needs to address those individual’s areas. Here at the Training Center we have had hundreds of athletes go through our programs, which allows us to draw from a vast experience base of different athletic needs and deficiencies. From kids just starting their athletic careers to professional athletes, we have a program that can help any athlete succeed at any level.
